Tithing

Updated: Jun 23, 2022

We don’t tithe to be blessed

We tithe because we are already blessed. By tithing, we acknowledge that God is our source and He has given us every good thing that we have.

In Genesis 14:18-20, Jesus (in the form of Melchizedek) blessed Abraham. And Abraham tithed to this man Melchizedek (Jesus) in thankfulness for the victory God granted him (Abraham) in battle while rescuing his nephew Lot.

But Abraham was already blessed of God. He didn’t tithe to be blessed. He tithed because he was already blessed. God blessed Abraham way back in Genesis 12. Jesus (in the form of Melchizedek) just affirmed that Abraham was blessed of God and He (Jesus) gave Abraham communion (wine and bread) - Genesis 14:18.

While the Levitical priesthood ended at the cross, the (Melchizedek) priesthood of Jesus remains forever (Hebrews 7:3,17). That’s why Jesus collected tithe long before the law was established; and He collects tithe after the cross. For He came in the order of Melchizedek, not in the levitical order of Aron (Hebrews 5:6,10; 6:20 & 7:11,17).
